Fine Art by Catherine LaPointe Vollmer
I find inspiration in plein air painting, the Adirondack Mountains, and my travels to US national parks. Trees are a favorite subject of mine. I attempt to push my paintings beyond simply depicting the landscape, in order to get to the heart of its character. I believe that many fine artists make the mistake of trying to stick to the letter of the subject, rather than the spirit. I want to connect with this spirit and then, as truthfully as possible, communicate that connection to the viewer.
When you see beauty in the natural world around you, when you feel compelled to stop and take notice, you aren’t counting the number of rocks or measuring the size of the trees. When you really connect with a landscape, its all about the mood you feel, it’s hold on you, and you respond to it emotionally. It’s like gazing into the eyes of another person for one intimate moment. I want to inspire those who see my artwork to hold that gaze, instead of quickly glancing away. In that way, maybe you can experience the same moment that I did.
